Caretaker Report 1 - Something practical, something comfortable

As the first caretakers of the clearing we decided to add some comfy and practical bits.

Jo built some chairs and other useful things like a door handle and a kitchen worktop, and Anna twiddled the lights, did some linocuts, baked bread and bashed the floor with a shoe to scare the rodents away at night.

Our evenings were sometimes cut off mercilessly when the lights ran out before we had cracked the system.

Our mornings started with the patient mastering of a ‘Kelly Kettle’ to boil water on.

Our days were spent cooking, talking to visitors about climate change, Buckminster Fuller, Passivhaus technology, straw being a very good insulator and Woodstock. We also explored the galleries and grounds and Anna spent some time staring at the swan sat in the centre of the lawn on the opposite side of the lake.

Anna had her birthday on Thursday, and a friend Paul visited and walked to Kineaton across the fields, ate spaghetti, learned and played Yahtzee and shared some beer.
